How to clean a carpet after a party

Everyone loves a great party, as it not only brings loads of fun but builds great memories. Hosting a successful and enjoyable party brings a lot of appreciation from our peers, but the problem starts when the last guest leaves and you find your house in a complete mess.

With so much dirt and stains around, you wonder where to start from and which corner to clean first. On the top of it, you cannot even think of using a vacuum cleaner as small things like almonds or peanuts can cause massive blockages to your appliance.

Here are some tips for you to clean your carpet after a party:

This planning begins before the celebration; You should clean your carpet before the party and apply a protectant. A carpet protectant helps to repel water and moisture and resists soil. However, the protectant only gives you more time to clean the spills and dirt and does not adequately protect against them. You can always seek help from Adelaide’s end of lease cleaning experts, they will have a team of professional carpet cleaners who should be able to get the job done in less than 30-45 mins, depending on the size of the property.

The longer drink or food spills remain on the carpet, more likely it is that they will turn into stains thus cause actual discolouration of the fibres.

Different spills have to be dealt with in different ways. For food spills, baby wipes can be used to wipe and clean the area.

But if there are strong stains like that of chocolate and ketchup, dip a cloth in white vinegar and apply it onto the stained spot. It can be repeated several times till the stain vanishes.

If dealing with fresh blood stains, blot it with cold water or hydrogen peroxide. Do not use warm water as it will set the spot.

While dealing with spills of drinks like soft drinks and wine, be extra cautious to use a tissue or a dry cloth to blot the area first, so that it absorbs all the moisture. Then, clean with warm water and dishwasher liquid.

You can also use vinegar mixed with water in the ratio 1:2. Rub the solution onto the stained area with a cloth and repeat till you get the desired results.

For tea and coffee stains, rub few drops of beer onto the carpet. Remember to repeat the process till the stain vanishes completely.

Removing wax and gum from your valuable carpet without damaging it can be extra tricky. Rub an ice cube on the gum or wax, thus freezing it. Now, with great caution, gently pull it out. Then dry the area with a towel and vacuum thoroughly.

The most painful moment is to see oil spilt on your expensive carpet. To remove an oil stain, place a paper towel on it and iron it in a warm setting. This will cause the oil to stick to the towel.

If this doesn’t work, sprinkle baking soda and cornstarch over the area. Rub gently with a cloth, such that the powder settles down completely. Now vacuum the area completely and wash with a carpet shampoo.

Remember to use the carpet shampoo according to the directions on the packaging.

Do not make the carpet too wet as that increases the drying time and thus causes the odour to set in.

To remove the bad odour from the carpet, sprinkle baking soda generously. Allow it to stay overnight. The baking soda will absorb the bad odour from the carpet. In the morning, vacuum thoroughly to remove the powder.

These tips will help you keep your carpet clean after a party, but in case, you are not satisfied with the results; you can always seek professional help.
